As Christians it is good to know what we believe in and why we believe in it.

This Bible was great. I could understand it, and it doesn’t take the text and make it say something it isn’t supposed to. The commentary is awesome, and it does a good job at answering the questions you come up with as you are reading. Plus there is almost a scripture reference in every study note.

All in all, I would highly recomend that anyone who takes reading the Word seriously. It is a great tool, and quite frankly it cannot be exauhsted.

When you read a book about God, do you look to it for a good story? Or, do you look further understand Christianity, and the Bible?

When I read, unless it is a fictional book, I read it to learn. I don’t read the book to be entertained. There is a lot of stuff in this world that can entertain you, and I don’t think that things relating to Christianity need to be judged by the amount they entertain.

The reason I am thinking about this is because a colleague of mine was talking about how he wished that a book about evangelism he is reading right now had more stories in it. When I heard this I didn’t quite understand why there needed to be more stories. The point of the book is to teach the relationship of the Gospel and evangelization; it is not to tell stories that make you feel good.

Don’t get me wrong; I do enjoy good stories. I just don’t see how when something so powerful and true, that doesn’t have pretty, fluffy stories in it, is less enjoyable than if it did. It is the meat and potatoes that will fill you, not the parsley and salt!

What do you think? Is it wrong to approach a book just looking to satisfy your flesh? Or is there more of a reason to read than that?

Don’t Waste Your Life, written by John Piper is possibly the most powerful book I have ever read. And when I say that I am not exaggerating. Piper writes this book with the intention to show our purpose, and that purpose is to live to glorify Christ and find our Joy in him.

Through reading this book I have developed a much more complex perspective of what my purpose is in this life. But it is funny; I haven’t gained this perspective because of a bunch of soft little stories or because of the things I will receive if I adopt this perspective. But I have acquired this new perspective, because of the conviction of the plea which this book contains.

Piper does an awesome job at telling his readers that this life is not about them… At All!!! I know this sounds crazy, but he takes you on a trip through scripture which will prove to you, if you are willing, that you were designed for far more than having the perfect life. But we were designed to glorify Jesus Christ.

Towards the end of the book he sums the whole thing up by explaining how we can better glorify Christ in our jobs and in missions. I highly recommend this book because I think it will really change your perspective of life and joy. You will find yourself wanting to do things you never thought of in the past. And most of all you will learn to appreciate Christ in a way that you may never have before.

I Kissed Dating Goodbye, was written by Joshua Harris as his first book ever. I began to read this book, because one of my good friends had read it so I thought that I might read it as well. The thing that caught my eye was the title. What a strange way to talk about dating, or at least that is what I thought before I began to read it. I first thought the book was going to be about how to pursue a proper relationship through courtship, but I quickly found out that I was wrong.

Harris actually uses this book as a tool to teach people about the advantages of waiting to date or court (whichever term you prefer to use) until they are at the right time in their life. He gives some very insightful wisdom to help young people understand that dating is not the best thing we can do to glorify God, and it is not the best thing to do if we want to keep our relationship with God healthy and the main focus of our lives.

One of the most insightful things I have learned from the book is that dating or courting should not be taken casually. This does not mean you must be very serious in the things you do with that special person. But it does mean that you should put a lot of thought and prayer into your decision to pursue a dating or courting relationship with another person. Harris does a good job at explaining this.

This is a great book, and I have enjoyed every page of it. If you want to learn more about how to get the most out of being single, and how to take the proper steps towards a healthy dating or courting relationship in the future, this book is perfect for you. I don’t know if you have ever listened to Joshua Harris preach, but if you have you know how elegant he is with his words, and he delivers a powerful message but in a way that you are excited to hear it. I hope you will take the time to read this book, and let God be the center of all of your relationships.

Some people may find it offensive the way he describes him, but Driscoll is just trying to take a very realistic approach.

He then continues through the book talking about why Jesus is God, why Jesus is the only god, and what Jesus has done, is doing, and will do in the future upon his return. Driscoll really just takes an approach in his writing that I have not seen before. It is highly informative, but it flows easier than most books I have read in the past. On top of that this book has so many references and so much information that you will feel as if you took a class in Jesus 101 by the time you finish the book. There are hundreds of scripture references, and dozens of quotes from influential people of today.

All in all this is a great book. It is extremely deep, but a pretty easy read. I would highly recommend it to people investigating the person of Jesus, or to anyone who just wants to learn more about Christianity. And like with most of Driscoll’s other stuff, it seems to be tailored to young men. So be prepared for anything! Hope you enjoy it.

You know what I’m talking about. It was one of those mornings where I just didn’t want to wake up, because my bed was just so comfortable. But I eventually got up and got ready for the day. As I was getting ready all I could think about was this book I started reading a few days ago. It is called Don’t Waste Your LIfe, and It is written by the great author and pastor, John Piper.

I began reading this book, because I have came to a point in my life and with Christ that I know it is time for me to venture onto more things. I am not sure what those things are, so I decided to read this book to get some fuel for the fire. I really don’t want to be that Christian that does nothing with their life, and I also don’t want to be that Christian that tries to do everything and as a result get nothing done.

I have only read two chapters of the book so far, but it has really gotten me to think about what exactly my goals are in my walk with Christ. What is it that I want to see happen from it? What does God want from it? These are all questions that are running through my mind, even as I write this. I would highly encourage anyone who is young and wants to really get a desire to do what God would have for them to read this book ASAP!

I am so thankful for it too. This book has gotten me to dissect the application of the Gospel in my own life. The Gospel & Personal Evangelism By Mark Dever, is a great tool and resource for anybody. Dever did a great job at making this book; it is intricate enough for those who already are well grounded in their Christian faith, and it is simple enough for newborn Christians to be able to apply it to their walk with Christ.

Dever definitely didn’t write your average evangelism book. He made this book unique by not creating a step-by-step guide on what to say during your evangelism encounter, but he took the issue to the readers heart, to their understanding of the Gospel. The Gospel is the good news that an evangelist is to share with everybody. The Gospel is what we live by, and without it there would be nothing else to evangelize about.

Once you read this book, you will have new perspective of evangelism. You will realize that it is not just about a ten minute conversation, and it also is not just about sharing your faith in your everyday life. It is really about living through the Gospel and keeping it at the center of everything that you do. Dever tells of how it is our responsibility to share the Gospel with others, and if a person doesn’t ever here the Gospel, what the consequences will be.

So, if you consider yourself a Christian, then this is a very much past due addition to your personal library. This book will place a new desire within you to live like you should live as a Christian.

I have always enjoyed reading, although I never read many books until I became a Christian. To me, everybody should read. It is a great way to become informed, and an even better way to strengthen your intellectual abilities. I go through spurts, sometimes I will read a lot of books in a month, and others I won’t even complete one book. But I am going to place a link to a page where you can view all the books I have read. Until that link is ready, you can simply click here. So please, find some good books to read, and really get into them. Read books that challenge you, not only intellectually but morally. Do so that you can find what the rest of the world believes, so you can be better equipped to spread the word to many different people.

The folks at The Rebelution are pushing to see this book hit the top of the Amazon charts on March 25th. I think this would be a great thing to see. Most books out there being sold are just filthy pieces of trash… But this book has a purpose, and that is to lead young people to live their lives to the fullest through the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ.

I recently started working for an organization called Worth the Wait. As part of working there I have been researching abstinence, and abstinence education. This book by Pam Stenzel has been a great resource. I first heard of Pam Stenzel about six or seven months ago. She was guest hosting a podcast called Way of the Master. I was very impressed when I heard her talk about sexual abstinence, and I actually wanted to read one of her books so I was excited to find out that I needed to read, as part of my job, her book called Sex Has a Price Tag.

If you are a parent, student, teacher, pastor, or whatever else you could be, you need to read this book. It not only tells of the consiquences of sex before marriage. But it tells you of the rewards of waiting for any sort of sexual intamicy until marriage. Pam Stenzel was an employee of the Crisis Pregnancy Center for many years before she wrote this book, so not only is she very knowledgeable in this area, but she has many heart wrenching stories as well. As a young man I can tell you I have learned a lot from this book, not only for my job, but to apply to my life as well.

I set it aside for a few months, but once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it back down! In The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis takes you directly into the midst of spiritual warfare, but only from the evil side. The book consists of thirty-one letters written from one demon to the other. They talk about ways of keeping their “patient” in church, but still out of the enemy’s hands (God is the enemy), and of course they talk about a whole lot more than that. It is a very quick read, but I have to say, I am a new fan of Mr. Lewis. His writing in this book is so intelligent, it is amazing. This book has truly changed my viewpoint on spiritual warfare, and I am sure it will do the same for you!

Persepolis is a story of a young girl who is growing up during the Islamic revolution in Iran. While reading the book you get to see how the changes made by the Islam extremists affect the lives of the people within the country, and how the people react. This is the first of two books. Persepolis covers about four years of a girls life, who happens to be the author, and takes you through many experiences which she went through. It is written in a comic strip format, and the images add an amazing amount of detail to the story.

Being a Christian I did not only read this book as entertainment, but I read it to see how this lady who grew up during the Islamic revolution views religion. I would deffinitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading for more than simple entertainment and wants something for their mind to chew on.
